How do you feel about deferred admission?

I'm an upcoming junior in high school, so I'm obviously thinking a lot about my life after high school. College has always been an option for me, but I'm thinking about asking for a deferred admission to the school I'm applying for. I don't want to head right about to school after I graduate. I want to travel. I was just wondering if people could give me some insight on how it works, and how to get an deferment? And your opinions or if anyone has ever done it. Thank you.
