Growing grapes without lattice at first?

I have 10 grape plants that I planted this year. Some of them are sending out the little curly ques in search of a lattice or something to climb. What happens if I don't give them a lattice just yet? Will they keep growing upwards for a bit? I would give them a lattice in a month or two when I save some money up.
